everett's 6-month update

1. food - ev's preferred meal is still momma's milk and he continues to nurse every 2 1/2 to 3 hours during the day and typically twice a night. he doesn't much care for the texture of pureed foods, but can only handle the potent flavor of straight banana and apple in small amounts. we're working on trying to just get him used to the spoon in his mouth, which is definitely not a favorite of his! our newest gadget which he seems to enjoy a bit more is a silicone feeder by kidsme. i figure it's more sanitary than the mesh feeders, and it seems to help his teething as well as get him some food. today's new food was avocado. hopefully by the next update, we'll have progressed a lot in this area!
2. growth - i'm sure you can see that ev has yet to slow down in this department. at his 6-month pediatrician appointment, he was 76% for weight (down from 90% at 4 months) and 50% for height (same)...still going strong! additionally, he has fully cut his bottom-left tooth and the bottom-right started peeking through this morning. teething is definitely not an easy or fun process for any of us! thank goodness for nursing and teething tablets.
3. development - he continues to sit up for longer periods of time without much need for stabilization or falling over, but he still a little wobbly! he has yet to show signs of any crawling but is beginning to do more push-ups and has done the inchworm move a couple times.
4. sleeping - ev has recently begun having a more dependable routine (knocking on wood!!) when it comes to sleep. he wakes up around 8am and ends up doing one good morning nap for an hour and a half to two hours. he then does an afternoon nap for 45 minutes or so. sometimes i can rock him and he goes back to sleep for another 45 minutes or so. and then he typically does a third short catnap around dinnertime (depending on length of afternoon nap). he is always very ready to go to bed by 7:30 or so. his nighttime sleep hasn't changed any. he still wakes 2-3 times per night. sometimes daddy can walk with him and he'll go back to sleep. but most of the time, he wants to nurse and then goes right back to sleep.
5. overall demeanor - ev is becoming much more interactive and likes to laugh. he smiles a lot and still prefers to be held or carried. he definitely doesn't like being left alone!
6. favorite things - ev loves chewing on anything he can put in his mouth - fingers, hands (anyones!), blankets, toys, etc. his new favorite thing is to play with his feet.

happy six month birthday everett!

i turned 6 months old today. i celebrated it indoors as we got about 7 or 8 inches of snow outside. as evident by my picture, i have continued to maintain my weight thanks to my wonderful appetite.

well my first tooth has finally made its debut. yep, after yet another rough night and many fussy days, mommy felt my gums this morning and there it was. the smallest part of my first tooth (bottom right) had cut through. it's not quite enough for a picture yet, not that getting me to open my mouth is easy anyway! maybe i'll let them snap one this weekend when we take my 6-month picture (assuming they take that on time this go round!).

when owen was first born, i made a video of his birth so now i get to enjoy making one for everett. God has given me two wonderful boys and it's so much fun looking back at their births and capturing those moments in a video. i'm truly a lucky daddy and husband.

cutie in a basket

while mommy folds the laundry, i usually hang out on the floor. but today daddy recommended that mommy put me in the basket to see if i would enjoy it. i was content hanging out in my own space.

the family enforcer

i can't wait until football season comes around again. mommy and daddy have already nicknamed me "the enforcer" so i'm ready for some football.

earning my stripes...or rolls

you know how in the military the more stripes the better. well, i'm hoping that goes for babies too...only instead of stripes, they would be rolls. i have worked hard for these rolls, just ask mommy. mommy asked the pediatrician if the rolls are cute or excessive and the pediatrician said they are never excessive at this age. i'm eating like a champ and it shows.

gettin' stronger

everett is starting to sit up more and has occasionally wiggled himself forward. not quite sure if he's starting to move more cause he's stronger or cause he feels he needs to move out of the way of his brother as owen zooms around the house.

changing up my diet

i've been so interested in the food that mommy, daddy and owen eat that i watch them carefully and occasionally reach for it myself. with all that being said, mommy and daddy decided to try out some rice cereal. didn't go over too well with me.

owen decided to reward himself for going potty. we usually give him two marshmallows as an incentive but he decided that it was time for him to strike the jackpot.
