everett's 1-year birthday: eating my cake

posted by everett

i absolutely loved my cake! mommy found a yummy recipe for homemade moonpie cake. with major help from grammie and my great aunt pam, it was a delicious chocolate cake filled and frosted with homemade marshmallow cream and covered in a chocolate glaze. they also sprinkled yummy crushed graham crackers all over both layers. the main cake was shaped like a moon and i had my very own small smash cake. i definitely didn't mind getting messy for all that goodness!!!

everett's 1-year birthday: the food and decor

posted by everett

i had a blast at my 1-year birthday. i got to eat lots of good food and got lots of wonderful gifts from family and friends. mommy and daddy planned the entire party around a book theme with all the food based on popular children's books...even my invitation was a library card. everyone was encouraged to bring me books to add to my collection. thanks everyone for making it a special day for all involved.

happy birthday to our baby!

posted by mommy and daddy
all the family is now gone, so we have time to write and catch up on the big day!

to our sweet baby ev,
this past year has definitely been a rewarding (and also very challenging!) one. one year ago, we welcomed you into our arms in a much more peaceful birth experience (thank you vbac!), and cuddled you from the start. those first few weeks, you slept most of the time...more than what we were used to. and you were the hardest to wake up to nurse (you even slept through ice on your feet!). but we glided through that newborn stage and then the reality of having two kids really took hold. your babyhood as the second-born was very different than your brother's. we have not read as many books together, or rocked in the chair for hours on end. we didn't get out together as much, go for as many walks, and have yet to experience storytime at the library. and we definitely didn't have nearly as much blissful cuddle time. but together we have snuggled and nursed and walked and bounced and nursed some more. we wore you, loved you, fed you, and played with you. we've kissed your bumps and wiped your tears. and we've cried with you. and so although this first year looked different than what we've experienced before, we still can't believe that an entire year has passed and you turned 1. we are immensely thankful to God for bringing you into our family. your smile lights up a room and your bouncing, dancing body is a joy to watch grow. and although there have been many differences, one thing will always remain the same, we love you more than you will ever know!!

a very pensive (first-thing-in-the-morning!) 1-year-old

you were so ready to go have fun!

off and running...the only thing that stops you is nursing!!

we love you, ev!

touch-a-truck

posted by owen

today i got to get up close to some of my favorite trucks at a local touch-a-truck event. i've been interested in all types of cars and trucks for as long as i can remember so this was something i've really been looking forward to.

a real life dump truck

these semi-trucks are huge

i didn't know semi-trucks had beds in them...and a fridge

i even got to walk aboard a real RTD bus with mommy

i'm a natural behind the wheel

this is so much fun!

wow! a garbage truck

some type of construction truck

they even had a helicopter

i'm sitting in a real helicopter...just like mater

for me, this was the highlight. a real monster truck. the line
was too long to take a ride.

ridin' in style. a porsche limo

a police truck

another highlight for me, a fire truck
