{home}preschool : week one
posted by mommy
well, i didn't get this post together as early as i had hoped, so it's coming almost a week late! we had a lot of fun during our first week of doing preschool at home. i chose a "curriculum" i found online called god's little explorers. i use the word curriculum very loosely as i don't feel most children need formal education this early! however, knowing we will be starting kindergarten next year with owen here at home, i felt it would be good for us to test the waters regarding a schedule and mommy-directed learning time vs free play so next year isn't a complete shock.
god's little explorers is super fun and pretty laid back and casual. it is based on journeying through the Bible over the year, focusing on one new story each week. it also includes a new letter each week that either goes with the Bible story or with the theme. it involves daily Bible exploration, singing, a treasure map we add to weekly (based on the Bible story), a new adventure each day through the week's theme, abc and shape experiments or crafts, snacks, and various life skills to work on. the boys are really enjoying all they are getting to do. and we love that ev is a part of all of it. he doesn't get the letters yet or anything, but he loves doing anything big brother does, so excluding him wasn't an option!
this week, our letter of the week was "'x' marks the spot" and the theme was "God's Word is a Treasure". the boys enjoyed treasure hunting, practicing recognizing and writing their letter, and doing some fun crafts! we look forward to many more fun weeks this year as we not only travel through the alphabet and do lots of fun experiments and crafts, but also journey through the many wonderful and meaningful stories of the Bible.

treasure hunting for the letter "x" and finding lots of fun new school supplies for their treasure boxes |
checking out the new glue stick |
looking through their homemade binoculars, which owen is now obsessed with and wants to use every day! |
starting out day 2 as pirates and listening to our Bible story |
coloring in a picture of the Bible, a piece that will be added to the treasure maps they make later |
decorating their treasure boxes, owen was very particular and insisted on lining his box lid with stickers all the way around! |
one of our snacks - cheese stick "x's" on crackers |
another treasure hunt for "golden coins" |
owen trying to put the words in order on the coins to create the phrase "God's Word Is A Treasure" |
he actually did do it all by himself just by sounding out the first letter of each word! |
practicing writing "x's" on their alphabet pages. ev just colored his...when he wasn't more interested in taking the marker caps on and off! |
another method for practicing the letter x with some cutting practice mixed in too! |

first day of {home}preschool
posted by owen
monday was my very first day of preschool. although i'm being homeschooled, mommy still wanted to mark my first day with the popular "first day" pics. mommy will post more at the end of the week about what we're doing in school and all that i will be learning this year.

when mommy asked me what i want to be, my first answer was, of course, "a dog"! she tried to get me to think of other answers, so my second choice was "a snowman". guess i'm just a dreamer! |
